Manly West Before & After School Care
Manly West Primary School
Tel: (02) 9948 8113
PHILOSPHY
The Centre's primary aim is to provide a safe and caring atmosphere for
the children. The centre also strives to provide a fun and stimulating
environment where all children are given equal opportunities.
BACKGROUND
Our Centre was opened in 1994 by a group of parents looking for an alternative
to existing after school care options. We opened with an attendance of
8 children and have grown over the last eight years to now cater for a
maximum of 60 children in the morning and 80 children in the afternoon.
A group of interested parents make up the BASC Management Committee which
is a sub-committee of the P & C.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Centre opens at 7.00am each morning and closes at 6.30pm. Children
are taken into the playground at 8.50am when a teacher comes on playground
duty. The children return to the centre straight from school at 3.20pm.
For the first two terms of the year, Kindergarten children are taken to
their lines in the morning and collected from their classrooms in the
afternoon.
Children are not provided with breakfast, however, the staff will help
children prepare breakfast if required. Sandwiches, fruit and drink are
provided for afternoon tea. Children may bring extra food, although 'junk
food' is discouraged.
FEES
Please call the centre on the phone number above to enquire about fees.
ACTIVITIES
In the afternoon children are split into two groups and two different
programs are run. Kindergarten to Year 2 children are in a group in the
main centre and Year 3 to Year 6 are taken to the Toone Room where a more
age appropriate program can be run. This includes 30 mins allocated for
homework time.
Activities for both groups include art and craft, sport, cooking, drama,
indoor and outdoor games and much more. Special theme days are run throughout
the year including picnics, bike days, special guests, dress-up days,
disco's and parties celebrating various occasions. Upon enrolling all
parents are asked to sign a local excursion permission slip. This enables
us to take the children on local walking excursions without prior notice.
Mostly we walk to the 'Cemetery Park" opposite the school. When the
children are in the 8+ Club they go on more outings including Manly Pool
and Ten-pin bowling.
