Recount of Year Four's Excursion to Manly Council

On Tuesday the 8th of April,4M, 4S and 4H went to Manly Council Chambers. We left at ten past ten and started walking up Griffiths St and down past Manly Oval and on to the chambers.

4M went in first while 4H and 4S went to the beach to do some art work. In the chambers we went to the room where the meetings are held. A lady then talked about Manly Council before Ranger Terry came and talked about why he has to do his job and what he has to do (dog control, booking people etc.). Jean Hay (the Mayor) then talked about how her children and grandchildren went to Manly West. Then she let us dress up in the Mayor's robes and chain and we all had a photo taken with her. After that we were all given biscuits and juice.

Next we walked over to Fairlight Beach where the canteen ladies brought the Easter lunch packs. After lunch we did some sand modelling.

At about 2.45pm we went back to school.

Overall, my favourite part was sand modelling but the whole day was excellent.

The Paddock
From the paddock the scene was incredible! The sky was pitch black and the lightning was like an angry snake darting down. The clouds were swirling down the hurricane faster and faster. The tree looked like it was about to give up and get pulled out of the ground and get sucked into the hurricane just like the clouds.

The paddock was being terrorised. The grass, trees and stock were getting ripped out of the ground just like that. The farmer was helpless to do anything about it.

I REMEMBER
A sunny day,
I went to the beach,
With all my brother's friends.
I was on a 6 or 7 footer.
I tried to do a barrel roll,
I tried but I didn't succeed,
I GOT DUMPED!!!!

The Blue Mountains
They no longer live there,
In the Blue Mountains,
I no longer go there,
To the Blue Mountains,
My Grandma and Grampa live here now,
That's what makes me happy.

Autumn
We Know It Is Autumn
We Know it is Autumn
When leaves wrinkle
And turn beautiful
colours like red, orange,
yellow and gold.

We know it is Autumn
When the ground is covered in leaves,
And the air turns chilly
Like a soft winter breeze.

We know it is Autumn
When leaves drift and dance to the ground
with a rustling sound.

We know it is Autumn
When the sesanquas flower and leaves die
and leave behind bony skeletons of trees.

Autumn
I can hear the sound
Of the leaves on the ground
I see them tumble down, down, down,
And lie below all gold, red and brown.
I can see them fall making a carpet of leaves
As the bony branches are bare
Swaying softly in the air.
The dancing leaves turn crisp and crunchy.

A Letter from the First Fleet
Dear Grandmother,
It has been three months since I left. We are on top of the deck and one man got shot while trying to runaway. It has been the worst time of my life. The small cell I'm in has fifty people and we have only been on deck once. A boy called ee was sent to jail for picking up a ladies hat!

I'm very sick because the food is full of maggots and weevils. I feel really small because the cell is crowded with a lot of tall men. The cell is mouldy and the floor is full of stinky vomit. I hate going to the toilet in a bucket and hate the people who stare at you. I really wish that I could jump over board and kill myself because I probably won't see you again. I wish I could see mother, father, brother and sister but I can't because they're dead. I really miss you!!!!
Love you
From your love

Dirk Hartog's Diary entry
15th September 1616
Dear Diary
THANK GOODNESS !!!!!
Finally we sighted land!
I don't think this is a very good place to live, it's hot, dry and even worse, there is nothing to trade!
We have been here for a long time now. We are going to set sail to Batavia to trade now.
I saw some dolphins, plenty of sharks and other very strange creatures.
It was good that our artist sketched them.
I will name this land after my name. I will name ALL OF THE LAND Eendracht land and leave a pewter plate.
